Illinois Drug Statistics and Facts

  • According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, there were 70,378 total admissions to Illinois alcohol and drug rehabilitation facility in 2009.
  • Of the 70,378 admitted to drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers, about 2/3 were male, and 1/3 were female; also, about half of those admitted half were African-American and White.
  • The National Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment Services review, in 2009, reflected that almost two-thirds of treatment programs provide substance abuse treatment only while 30 percent offer a combination of substance abuse and mental health services.
